The papaya is a luscious tropical fruit, yellow or orange in color when ripe. In the US it is cultivated in Hawaii, southern California and South Florida.
Papayas have a lot of nutritional values. They provide us with carotene, vitamins A, C, E, flavonoids, the B vitamins folate and pantothenic acid, the minerals potassium and magnesium and also fiber. They bring us the health benefit of the digestive enzyme papain which helps to lower inflammation and to improve healing from burns.
Papayas because of the above nutrients assist in:
- protecting against heart disease
- promoting digestive health
- decreasing asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis
- strengthening the immune system
- protecting against macular degeneration
- promoting lung health
We can enjoy the papaya in different ways. A simple fare is just to cut it in slices and eat it just like that. Another way is to have it as a fruit salad with the addition of slices of pineapple, watermelon, strawberries and banana.
My favorite treat is the papaya smoothie. I usually blend it with banana, pear, dragonfruit (you can replace dragonfruit with strawberries), milk, cinnamon and nutmeg powder. It is delicious.
May your papaya adventure be a luscious and fruitful one!
