Ever thought that something was lacking in your life and you could not figure out what it was? Ever felt that you needed some form of exercise but could not figure out what to choose? You might be the kind that does not like outdoor activities such as walking, running, jogging or hiking. You might be the kind who finds nature frustrating with all the bugs and insects flying around you, biting you, laying on you or buzzing in your ears.
Well, why not consider an indoor activity which is fun and yet aerobic such like dancing? There is such a big choice out there that you can easily be overwhelmed. But I have a suggestion for those of you who have yearned to be on the dance floor but felt too intimidated to join the crowd. For many years, I would go to Latin nightclubs and watch the dancers, wishing I could be like them. I just did not dare because I couldn’t dance, until one day my daughter suggested that I join a dance school. I entered the salsa world and my life has not been the same since.
I am suggesting the same thing to you today. Dancing is a lot of fun and the world is open to you through its dances. Imagine being able to belly dance, to do Bollywood dances, to dance salsa, merengue, bachata, cha cha, Argentine tango, rumba, son, Foxtrot, waltz, or samba! When you join a ballroom school, many such dances are available to you. When you enter a Latin school, their focus is mainly on salsa, merengue and bachata and sometimes on cha cha and tango.
The day you enter a school and you remain dancing for a few months, I guarantee you that you become hooked. I admit to you that the beginning is hard and you may feel like giving up but don’t. You will get there. It is now a matter of becoming the best that you can be. There is no going back. You make new friends and they all want to go out to show off their skills. Now you are the one on the dance floor at nightclubs being looked at by others. The more you practice the better you become and the more confident you feel.
I find that most people who enter the dance scene and remain dancing for a while end up learning other dances that they never thought they would be interested in such as belly dance or Bollywood.
Dancing brings back lost agility, youth, freedom and happiness. You feel carefree and adventurous. As a woman, you feel sexy and you dress sexy. As a man, you become the hot guy that women are after. Your dress code changes and you are less conservative with your attire. At work, people notice a difference in you but they don’t know what to attribute it to. You feel that you have changed in views and attitudes but yet you are the same person. Deep down, you know that the new you is there to last. You have gained confidence and self-worth. You now really appreciate and love the new you.
And then you realize that it all started when you put on your dancing shoes!!!
