Above Ground Garden

This weekend a co-worker of mine invited me to dinner at her place. It was going to be just the two of us she told me and it would be informal. It sounded great so I was looking forward to it.

I actually was taken by surprise when I got to her place and she took me to the patio. This lady is 77 years old and she grows her own vegetables. She lives in a condo on the third floor and she carries her own pots, soil, seeds and whatever else she needs herself. She is a nurse and registered dietitian and she is into raw juices, fresh veggies and fruits.

She had oregano, thyme, sage, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, squash, eggplants, parsley, broccoli, celery, spinach etc… She had a tag for all of them and she knew all the names. She described her technique on how she keeps bugs from destroying the plants. She explained that apple cider vinegar is a great organic or natural pesticide. She said she sprays the plants lightly with it if there is a real threat. Her best explanation was that we each have our own therapy for a peaceful life and hers is her plants.

She then prepared me via her juicer a mixture of beet, apple, carrot and celery juice. It was simply awesome.

She is a true inspiration!!!
